The third mandate is a source of tension in the center-right.

And even in the Democratic Party, secretary Elly Schlein is treading on minefields.

The majority is called to find a composition before Thursday, when the vote is expected on the League's amendment, which asks not to place limits on the re-elections of mayors and governors: on Tuesday there will be a confrontation between the government forces which could be decisive .

But even for the Democratic Party there will be a moment of truth, today in the leadership: a part of the party, including Schlein, is holding back on the third mandate, while mayors and regional presidents are in favor.

Even if, on the horizon, there doesn't seem to be any air of open conflict on the horizon.

"The spirit - explained by Democratic Party sources - is to find a unitary solution, also considering the fact that the majority is split: they argue, we instead argue".

The Democratic Party tries to take advantage of this to bring out the divisions of the centre-right, putting the internal ones aside.

Because they are in government - the reasoning goes - it is not up to the Dems to solve the problem for FdI and its allies.

Yesterday morning there was a call between Schlein, Davide Baruffi and Igor Taruffi of the PD secretariat, and some dem mayors, including that of Florence, Dario Nardella, and that of Pesaro, Matteo Ricci, coordinator of the first citizens of the dem.

"The objective is to find a solution - was the conclusion - There are different nuances, but no differences".

To ask for a third mandate, some PD administrators have signed a document, which could be transformed into an agenda.

But after the phone call with the secretary, a long process of mediation began, with the aim of arriving at the management with a shared position, avoiding counting.

The assumption is that the Democratic Party does not have to find a solution immediately, especially if, as could happen, the League withdraws its amendment and there is no test of the vote in the Senate.

In the centre-right the games could be decided on Tuesday when, as parliamentary sources explain, following a majority debate, it will be clear whether the League will withdraw the amendment on the third mandate, as FdI's allies urge, or whether it will insist, leading the centre-right to count itself in Senate Constitutional Affairs Committee.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the League Matteo Salvini and the secretary of FI Antonio Tajani will meet in the Council of Ministers in the morning and then they will be together on stage in Cagliari, for the closing of the electoral campaign of Paolo Truzzu, the presidential candidate of the coalition for the regional elections in Sardinia.

In the last few hours, Salvini has attempted to deflate tensions, explaining that the third mandate "won't make the center-right argue".

However, the issue is destined to remain on the table.

The main battleground is Veneto: to run again, governor Luca Zaia needs the amendment to the law on mandates.

But for that armchair Meloni intends to focus on Luca De Carlo.

Despite attention being focused on the amendment and the possible vote on Thursday, the centre-right risked having to go to the count already today, in the Chamber, for an agenda of the Action MP Enrico Costa, which however was declared inadmissible .
