A Belize-flagged, UK-registered
cargo ship operated from Lebanon
has been attacked in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait off the coast of Yemen,
British maritime security firm Ambrey reports.
An explosion occurred about 64 kilometers south of Mukha causing
damage to the vessel but no victims or injuries
, Ambrey specifies in a statement cited by international media.
The ship was heading from the United Arab Emirates to Varna in Bulgaria when she was attacked.
Attacks by Houthi rebels supported by Iran are raging in the area.
The Yemeni Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attack
on the bulk carrier Rubymar which risks sinking
but the crew is safe.
This was stated by the group's military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, as reported by the Reuters news agency.
Military authorities have confirmed that the crew abandoned ship, writes the Guardian.
Sarea added that the Houthis also shot down a US drone in Hodeidah, Yemen.
Today the EU launches the Aspides mission, for the safety of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
