Stellantis is apparently evaluating the possibility of producing the electric vehicles of its Chinese partner Leapmotor in Italy, in the Mirafiori plant.

The news reported by Automotive News has as its starting point a statement by CEO Carlos Tavares who in recent days, speaking about the partnership with the Chinese company, did not exclude the possibility that Leapmotor could come and produce in Italy "if there was a business adequate homes".

Stellantis confirms Tavares' words, but does not provide further clarifications regarding Mirafiori.

The Chinese company - according to Automotive News - could build 150,000 low-cost electric vehicles a year in the historic Turin plant, which would be sold by Stellantis' European dealers.

Today the electric 500 and the Maserati Gran Cabrio, Gran Turism and the Levante SUV are produced in Mirafiori (production of the latter will end on March 31).

The partnership with Leapmotor involves the acquisition by Stellantis of 21% for 1.5 billion euros and the creation of a Dutch-based joint venture called Leapmotor International controlled by the Italian-French company.
