Two-speed weather forecasts?
More and more precise thanks to artificial intelligence on the one hand, but with bugs due to forced automation on the other?
This is what the Météo France unions are denouncing, who have just filed a new strike notice until March 5.
“The quality of our numerical forecast models is improving and large paying customers still benefit from human expertise, but not the general public,” estimates forecaster Steven Testelin, member of the national office of the National Meteorology Union CGT .
The object of their anger lies in an acronym: “3P”, for “Production Forecast Program”.
This new organization, implemented since November, provides for the automation of forecasts which are then displayed on the Météo France website and application.
For each municipality, there is a pictogram predicting the daily weather (sun, cloud, snowflake, etc.) as well as the temperature up to two weeks later.
