Bébel, the old roaring lion
“Itinerary of a spoiled child”, at 8:55 p.m. on Arte.
In 1988, Jean-Paul Belmondo sought his second wind.
The Guignolo no longer acts like a puppet, the Morfalous bite the dust, his big action films with increasingly crazy stunts no longer impress the viewer.
The audience no longer applauds.
How to make your fifties roar in the harbor?
Claude Lelouch extends a hand to him which will lead them both to great popular success and the César for best actor in 1989 and a standing ovation for Bébel.
In “Itinerary of a Spoiled Child”, he plays Sam Lion, an abandoned child raised in a circus.
He leaves the wildcat cage to found a large cleaning company while sleeping in a trailer next to his ultra-modern headquarters.
The great circus of social success no longer amuse him either.
He pretends to be dead and reinvents himself as an adventurer from the end of the world, to whisper in the ears of undomesticated lions.
Lelouch films Belmondo's face like an emotional map, his eyes sad then full of wonder.
