If Marion Cotillard is now part of the Hollywood landscape, the actress recognizes that she has not always been comfortable dancing in American cinema.
The first American production in which the actress starred was none other than
Big Fish
, released in 2004 and directed by Tim Burton.
The cast includes stars such as Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Jessica Lange and Helena Bonham Carter.
The feature film met with great success at the box office but also among its peers, with no less than 4 Golden Globe nominations and an Oscar nomination in the Best Music category for Danny Elfman.

His first American film
In
Big Fish
, Marion Cotillard, then aged 27, plays Joséphine, the wife of William, the main character.
Guest of the show
Clique TV
on February 19, she confided to host Mouloud Achour her impressions of her performance.
“In this film, I didn't think I was very good, honestly.
In fact, each time I said to myself, 'Okay, I'm really going to save the good moments for when the plan is upon me [...] And in fact, I didn't understand anything.
I was doing a bit of shit, I was a bit stressed, I gained 6 kilos on the film.”
When Marion meets Tim
In 2004, in an interview given to
AlloCiné
to promote Big Fish, Marion Cotillard recounted how she joined the cast of the film.
“They were looking for a French actress to play the character of Joséphine,” she explained.
Tim Burton came to Paris to meet several young women.
Coming there to meet the actresses is already quite a rare thing among Americans.
I spoke with him for twenty minutes, it went pretty well.
Then they sent me two scenes and asked me to do some tests, record it on tape and send it back to Los Angeles."
While she had “dropped the deal”, her agent told her that she had been cast in the film and that she was flying to Alabama, the location of the filming, in three weeks.
“There, I really exploded!”, she remembered.
Since then, the actress has conquered Hollywood and continued to work with some of America's greatest directors and actors.
In 2010, she notably played alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in
Inception
, by Christopher Nolan.
Two years later, the British director called on the
Frenchie
again for
Batman: The Dark Knight Rises
in 2012. In 2016, we found her starring in
Allies
, by Robert Zemeckis, hand in hand with Brad Pitt .
