Spectacle of desolation at the foot of the slopes, at an altitude of 1,100 m.
In the Maurienne valley, all the ski lifts at the small resort of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards in Savoie (three ski lifts, three chairlifts and a conveyor belt for children) have been stopped since Monday evening, due to lack of snow.
The slopes are desperately green and on Tuesday it was still 13°C.
Like the air of spring.
Valérie Favre-Teylaz, municipal councilor, came to see the damage: “It’s surreal.
Look, everything is closed while we are in the middle of February vacation.
»
“Usually, here, there are kids, families, instructors,” she continues.
There is life, yes!
And people are happy.
But there, it's dead.
It feels like life has stopped.
It's deserted, ghostly.
» A real shock, therefore, for the locals but also the tourists.
“We came to ski with the children.
And there is no more snow.
It feels really weird.
To be able to ski, we will have to take the car and go to La Toussuire, an hour's drive from here,” confides, a little disappointed, Gilles, a Parisian vacationer.
Valérie, another tourist, decided to change her plans: “My husband and I are going hiking.
The mountain remains beautiful, even when you can’t ski,” she says positively.
