The EU institutions have reached agreement on the new air quality directive.
This was announced by the rotating presidency of Belgium.
Among the main innovations of the text proposed to help reduce smog - responsible for 300 thousand deaths a year in Europe -, part of the 'Zero pollution' package, there are more severe limits for pollutants such as fine particulate matter PM2.5, with air quality criteria for 2030 closer to the WHO guidelines.
