Giovanni Anselmo is the emaciated face of a handsome Italian, born in 1934 in Borgofranco d'Ivrea in the province of Turin.
It is in the rich city of Piedmont, which was capital of the States of Savoy, that this radical artist, free from all chatter, died on December 18, 2023, at the age of 89, keeping this eagle profile that we ready for condottieres.
He was one of the last figures of Arte Povera with the athlete from Biella, Michelangelo Pistoletto, 90 years old, and Giuseppe Penone, the youngest, 76 years old, who each have their own truant paths.
This fierce, who refused any label, is now eternal thanks to art and museums, with this retrospective which does not say its name, at the Guggenheim Bilbao.
The title, “Giovanni Anselmo.
Beyond the horizon,” sounds like an epitaph.
