In the second half of 2023, 14.3 million sickness certificates arrived at INPS, of which 78.0% from the private sector, with a reduction of 14% compared to the same period in 2022.
Sickness certificates for the third quarter of 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, recorded a reduction of 24.6%, having gone from 6.7 to 5.1 million, while for the fourth quarter there was a more limited reduction by -6.9% (from 9.9 to 9.2 million).
Overall, sick days in the third quarter of 2023 were approximately 21.6 million in the private sector and 4.7 million in the public sector, with a decrease of 26.4% and 30.2% respectively compared to 2022 values. On average, the sick days per certificate were 5.2 in both the private and public sectors (compared to 5.4 and 5.5 in the third quarter of 2022).
As regards the fourth quarter, total sick days in 2023 were approximately 29.4 million in the private sector and 8.9 million in the public sector, with a reduction of 9.5% and 14.3% respectively. compared to the same value in 2022. On average, sick days per certificate were 4.2 in the private sector (compared to 4.4 in the fourth quarter of 2022) and 4.0 in the public sector (compared to 4.2 in 2022) .
