Between 1980 and 2022, climate change has caused 111 billion euros in damage in Italy: 57.1 billion euros for floods, 30.6 billion for heat waves, 15.2 billion euros for rainfall, 8.2 billion for droughts, forest fires and cold waves.

Disasters such as earthquakes, eruptions, landslides and other geophysical phenomena have caused just under 100 billion in damage.
Overall, the economic losses caused by extreme events and natural disasters between 1980 and 2022 amount to around 210 billion euros.
The report certifies that over the last 40 years, 1/3 of the value of the damage caused by extreme events in the EU has been 'paid' by Italy.
For Maurizio Gardini, president of Confcooperative, "we are talking about 42.8 billion just from 2017 to 2022. In 2022 it cost almost 1% of GDP, 0.9% to be precise, equal to approximately 17 billion: an amount slightly less than a maneuver financial".
