On the night of February 12th, ZDF showed an adaptation of the bestseller “Expectation” by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Danish investigator Carl Mørck takes on an old, unsolved case, which apparently upsets some influential people.
With the film adaptation of the fifth volume of the thriller series, the waiting time can be bridged until the tenth and final volume of the “Carl Mørck” series appears in bookstores in March.

An unexpected discovery by border officials in Denmark brings a long-archived missing person case back to light in the ZDF crime thriller “Expectation”.
They arrest the Roma boy Marco (Lubos Olah) on a long-distance train.
With him they discover the identification papers of the Danish government official William Stark (Karl-Oskar Olsen).
The mysterious disappearance of the father of the family five years ago remained unsolved.
At the time, everything indicated that Stark had either fled abroad or committed suicide.
Scandinavian thriller on ZDF: Mørck reopens the missing person case
Stark, who worked as a school swimming instructor, was accused of molesting a 13-year-old student.
During the investigation, child pornography was discovered on his computer.
But Copenhagen detective Carl Mørck (Ulrich Thomsen) soon begins to doubt this portrayal.
The crime thriller is now available in the ZDF media library.
It is the fifth adaptation of a novel from the thriller series by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Immediately after its publication in 2013, the book conquered the bestseller charts in Germany.
Mørck is not at his best in this case.
He suffers from the consequences of a traumatic event, refuses psychotherapy and also tries to give up smoking with the help of chewing gum.
No wonder he behaves unfriendly towards his colleagues and acts clumsily when dealing with witnesses.
Marco is fifteen and hates his life in a clan whose members are forced into crime by their violent leader Zola.
As he flees, he comes across a man's corpse very close to Zola's residence... The search for the murderer leads detective Carl Mørck, Assad and Rose deep into the network of the Copenhagen underworld, into the swamp of corruption and serious crimes Politics and the world of finance - and extends into the African jungle.

However, Mørck quickly realizes that the arrested Roma boy is the key to the case.
But little Marco has other priorities than assisting with the investigation.
His mother has died, his father is under the influence of a powerful gang and a criminal leader with many helpers and informants wants to get rid of the boy as a disturbing witness.

Meanwhile, the investigations are shaking up important decision-makers in politics, business and administration in middle-class Denmark.
The missing William Stark had brought unpleasant accusations with him after his trips to Africa on behalf of the State Department.
Reports of an expensive hospital that was never built and millions disappearing down dark sewers.
Looking back, his superiors talk about exaggerated reports and individual mistakes by local employees.
But behind the scenes, the dignitaries are getting nervous.
Together with his colleague Assad (Zaki Youssef), Mørck digs into a swamp of corruption and cover-up.
The film, which is partly action-packed and directed by Martin Zandvliet, is solid thriller cinema for lovers of Scandinavian crime novels.
A new edition of the Olsen thriller is also planned for Netflix.
