When it was broadcast in 1988, the sequence from the very popular British show “That's Life” made the whole of England cry.
It showed Nicholas Winton, a 79-year-old retired broker, realizing, astounded, that the audience surrounding him on this talk show was made up of dozens of Jews and Czechs, whom he had saved fifty years earlier and that he had never seen them since.
It is this incredible story that “A Life” tells in fiction form, in theaters this Wednesday, and which hires two actors for the occasion to play the role of Winton in two eras – 1938 and 1988 –, Johnny Flynn and two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins.
