There could be hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers captured in the advance of Russian units or who disappeared during the chaotic Ukrainian retreat from Avdiivka: the New York Times writes, citing senior Western leaders and soldiers fighting for Kiev. Estimates on the number of Ukrainians captured or missing vary and a precise count could will not be possible until Kiev consolidates new defensive lines outside the city.
But two soldiers familiar with the retreat from Avdiivka believe there were between 850 and 1,000 soldiers.
Western officials have indicated that the figure appears accurate.
