In Italy in 2022, out of approximately 16.1 million pensioners, 52% are female, however "women are predominantly represented in the lowest pension income classes (up to 1,500 euros per month) while over 70% of allowance recipients are in the highest class (over 3,000 euros per month) is male".
This is what was illustrated today in an event promoted by the INPS Steering and Supervisory Council (CIV) due, it was explained, to "a difference in the type of benefit collected: in 2022, 50% of men received an early pension - those of a higher amount high on average - compared to 20% of women, who are in the majority among those in receipt of survivors' pensions".
If we then consider the average amounts of pension payments, an average male advantage of over 60% stands out (1,430 euros against 884 in 2022).
For the president of the Civdell INPS, Roberto Ghiselli, "a greater awareness of gender disparity is emerging among the new generations, although this 'gap' is still evident, especially with regards to salary differences and the greater working discontinuity between men and women", he added.
As for the extraordinary commissioner of the INPS, Micaela Gelera, she stated that gender inequality is a problem that is still very evident in our country today, and that it makes it necessary to strengthen and make structural the measures implemented by the political decision-maker to reconcile family responsibilities with life women's work.
I am thinking of leave, the nursery bonus, the universal single allowance and the recent measure introduced by the government to encourage the paycheck of working mothers, allowing them to face the family burden linked to the presence of children with greater serenity.
Similarly, all the measures aimed at caring for non-self-sufficient elderly people will make it possible to further lighten the family burden of women", concluded Gelera.
