Amazon enters the Dow Jones Industrial Average where, from February 26, it will take the place of Walgreens Boots Alliance, effectively becoming a blue chip.
"Reflecting the evolving nature of the American economy, this change will increase the exposure of consumer retail" in the index, explains S&P Dow Jones, also announcing that Uber will replace JetBlue in the Dow Jones Transportation Average.
The Dow Jones is made up of 30 stocks and all of its components are large companies.
For Amazon, entering is yet another milestone: it will replace Walgreen which entered in 2018 instead of General Electric, the last company among the 30 that were part of it from the beginning.
The Dow Jones includes giants such as Apple, Walmart and Walt Disney.
