Unless you only rely on second-hand clothes, it's not easy to dress responsibly.
In stores, we think we are doing something for the planet by purchasing clothing labeled “recycled material”, but the label is misleading.
According to the NGO Changing Markets, 93% of these materials come not from fabrics, but from plastic bottles.
The technology that makes it possible to recycle a thread into a thread is in its infancy, particularly because of its cost and complexity: clothes must be sorted by material and color, removed from zippers and buttons, etc. Thus, “less than 1 % of the fabrics that make up our clothes are recycled to make new ones,” underlines the European Commission.
