"On the recommendation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Italy was summoned today to the Farnesina in relation to the tragic death in prison of Alexei Navalny".
The Farnesina reported this in a note, explaining that "Italy's expectation was expressed to Ambassador Alexey Paramonov that full clarity be made on the circumstances of the disappearance of Navalny, who had been sentenced to serve detention in very harsh conditions for his political activity and for his fight against corruption".
The Farnesina adds that "in line with other European partners, Italy, which defends the inalienable values of freedom and democracy, will continue to invite the Russian Federation to put an end to the unacceptable persecution of political dissent and to guarantee the right to full freedom of expression, without any limitation of civil and political rights".
