While the whole country is dealing with the severe shortage of kindergarteners and teachers, the municipality of Herzliya decided to take up the gauntlet in a creative way - and offer housing at a reduced rent for kindergarteners and teachers.
In this context, the municipality of Herzliya announced today (Wednesday) that the lottery for the discounted shared apartments for kindergarteners and teachers will take place as soon as next May, and that they are expected to be fully occupied in the next school year.
The municipality said that for the benefit of the lottery, it took 7 partner apartments it owns and renovated them - which will allow 14 teachers to live in them at a reduced price.
Already now, it should be noted, 7 apartments owned by the municipality have been renovated, and will house 14 kindergartners and teachers, when the lottery will be opened already in May for the next school year.
In the long term - the municipality is working on several projects at the same time to offer housing for more kindergarteners and teachers.

The municipality is also working on a long-term plan, with several projects intended to be used as housing for the general population, and in particular for kindergarteners and teachers.
The municipality's housing program is only one part of a comprehensive plan to deal with the shortage of kindergarteners and teachers.
For example, last June the municipality announced a unique pilot in the city, in which it will be possible for 10th grade students to participate in a bachelor's degree in teaching while studying in high school, in order to integrate them as teachers in the city's schools.
The CEO of the municipality, Attorney Ehud Lazar, said: "The shortage of kindergarteners and teachers is a crisis that has plagued all cities in Israel for a long time. The municipality of Herzliya has set itself the goal of solving this issue and making sure that all children in the city receive the proper and best education that can be offered. We are happy to announce the program for housing kindergarteners and teachers. This is just the beginning of projects of this type and we will continue to promote additional programs to find quality and creative solutions to the shortage of educators."
