Employers can grant the bonus to their employees tax-free until the end of the year.

What applies to a mini-job or if you work part-time, for example?

In many companies, employees have already been able to look forward to a bonus to compensate for inflation.

Employers can still grant their employees such a bonus until the end of 2024.

They can pay their employees up to 3,000 euros tax- and duty-free as an inflation bonus during the benefit period.

One condition, however, is that the money is paid in addition to the wages that are already owed.

Payout once or in several installments

The inflation compensation bonus – a voluntary benefit from the employer – can be paid out once or in several installments.

The Federal Ministry of Finance explained this on its website: “The tax exemption also applies up to a total of 3,000 euros for several (partial) benefits that the employer grants to the employee during the preferential period.” A payment in monthly installments, for example, is also for tax reasons View possible.

“The partial services do not have to be based on a uniform decision about granting them, but can each be decided or agreed upon independently.”

Who can potentially benefit from the bonus?

Only employees can receive such a tax-free inflation bonus for tax purposes, regardless of the type of employment.

Mini-jobbers or employees on parental leave, for example, can also benefit from this, as the job portal

Stepstone.de reported

(as of February 13th)

.

The job experts generally emphasize that the bonus is a voluntary service from the employer.

Whether and how the inflation compensation payment is recorded is the responsibility of the employer.

In larger companies and in the public sector, it is usually anchored in the works agreement or a collective agreement.

What applies to a mini-job?

What should you consider when doing a mini-job with regard to the earning limit?

The

Bavarian Wage Tax Aid

explained it as follows in a statement: “The inflation compensation bonus is paid out in addition to earnings, but is not added to the annual salary in relation to the earnings limit for marginally employed people.” If you have several mini-jobs, those affected could “receive the full 3,000 euro bonus from each employment relationship “independently of each other”.

Is the inflation premium adjusted for part-time work?

What should employees who work part-time take into account?

“The employer has the option of tying the bonus to the number of hours worked and paying it out proportionately,” says the article on

Stepstone.de.

This is also how it is handled in the public service, for example.

If you work part-time, it is generally advisable to ask your employer how high the possible inflation compensation is, according to the job portal's advice.

Many employees also receive a voluntary special payment from their employer in addition to their salary.
