One
worker died and another suffered serious injuries
after a
fuel tank
exploded this Tuesday in which they were doing welding on the property of a company in the city of Catriel, in Río Negro.
The accident occurred after 2:30 p.m., in the sector of the former YPF workshops where several service companies dedicated to the metallurgical sector operate.
There, for reasons that are being investigated, an explosion occurred.
The body of the fatal victim was
thrown several meters away
, while his co-worker suffered
injuries and burns
, for which he was rushed to the local hospital, where he received the first treatment.
Spokesmen for the investigation of the case indicated that
the worker who lost his life is a
66-year-old
retiree and
the injured worker, 45 years old
, was later referred to the Alto Valle de Río Negro Hospital due to his
critical health
condition .
As described, the workers were welding the fuel tank of a tanker truck when the explosion occurred.
According to some versions, it was the neighbors of Catriel who, upon hearing the bang, called the Police and Firefighters, who immediately moved to the place, where several homes in the vicinity suffered broken
windows
and doors.
For his part, the owner of the company where both victims worked, José Luis Rasys, was "dismayed by what happened" and stated that "probably
the high temperatures
could have influenced the explosion," according to the
Catriel 25 portal.
