New embarrassing flop for the British armed forces, according to a revelation published today exclusively by the Sun. The tabloid recounts in detail the failure of the test launch of a (weakened) Trident nuclear missile, the only pillar of the Kingdom's deterrent, which took place on 30 January off the coast of Florida.
The test took place under the eyes of the Defense Minister, Grant Shapps, who was on board the Vanguard submarine, as specified by the BBC and not on the battleship of the same name as initially reported.
The missile crashed into the Atlantic Ocean not far from the submarine.
It is the second flop out of two since 2016. The Defense Ministry limited itself to confirming that "an anomaly has occurred".
A ministerial source quoted by the BBC tried to downplay the incident as "a specific problem" linked "exclusively" - in his opinion - to a test condition.
Not without ensuring that the Trident remains an effective weapon, "capable of being fired in a hypothetical real situation" of conflict: words spoken against the backdrop of the escalation of the current tone of the new cold war with Russia and the geopolitical confrontation with China.
