In Paris, the Eiffel Tower, one of the most visited monuments in the world, remained closed today for the third consecutive day due to the strike of the Cgte Fo trade unions who denounce poor financial management of the site by the municipality of Paris and call for restoration work.

As in the strikes of December 2023, workers' representatives deplore, among other things, an economic model that is "too ambitious and unsustainable".

According to unions, the health crisis and the closure of the construction tower have caused losses of 130 million euros, making the current economic model "unlivable".

In the midst of school holidays and a few months before the Paris 2024 Olympics, the unions do not rule out that the strike could continue into the next few days.

The social conflict already caused the closure of the tower on 27 December last, on the day of the hundredth anniversary of the death of its brilliant inventor, the engineer Gustave Eiffel (Dijon 15 December 1832 - Paris, 27 December 1923).

The unions also criticize the postponement of some construction sites due to Covid and the advanced state of degradation of the monument, despite the ongoing renovation work.

The building, repainted 14 years ago, instead of the usual 7 years, has several corrosion points visible to the naked eye.
