Her delicate chocolate cake, covered in a thin layer of apricot or apricot jam and covered with a shiny chocolate icing, delights sweet tooths all over the world.

In addition to the famous Sachertorte, Austrian dishes that everyone should have eaten include a wide selection of other delicacies.

For example, the juicy apple strudel, a thinly rolled dough filled with apples, raisins, nuts and spices and baked into a sweet pastry.

Also popular is the airy Kaiserschmarrn, a type of torn pancake that is refined with raisins and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Not to be forgotten are the delicious apricot dumplings, a specialty made from potato dough, and the Linzer Torte, a traditional cake with a layer of raspberry or blackcurrant jam, surrounded by a delicate almond crust.

You need these ingredients for a Sachertorte:

The Sachertorte is a world-famous classic recipe from Austria.

It is a must for every chocolate lover and a perfect dessert for any occasion.

  • Dough:

  • 150 g dark chocolate

  • 150g butter

  • 150g sugar

  • 6 eggs

  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar

  • 150g flour

  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder

  • Filling:

  • 200 g apricot jam

  • Glaze:

  • 200 g dark chocolate

  • 200g butter

  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar

Preparing the Sachertorte is so easy:

  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C top/bottom heat.

  • For the dough:

    Melt the chocolate and butter in a water bath and let cool slightly.

  • Beat sugar, eggs and vanilla sugar in a bowl until fluffy.

    Add the chocolate butter mixture and stir well.

    Mix flour with baking powder and stir in.

  • Pour the dough into a greased and floured springform pan (26 centimeters in diameter) and bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes.

    Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool.

  • For the filling:

    Heat the apricot jam in a small saucepan.

    Cut the Sachertorte once horizontally.

    Spread the bottom layer with apricot jam and then put the top layer back on top.

  • For the glaze: 

    Melt the chocolate and butter in a water bath.

    Stir in the powdered sugar, cool the icing a little, pour it onto the cake and let it set.
