Caesar ceremony: a call to demonstrate in front of the Olympia to break “the silence” on the violence

2024-02-22T14:43:37.064Z

Highlights: The CGT Spectacle wants a rally under the slogan “The violence, the silences, that’s enough!” This demonstration “follows the various statements made by Judith Godrèche and those concerning the Depardieu affair,” explains Salomé Gadafi, deputy general secretary. Unlike 2020, the ceremony for which Roman Polanski was in the running, no contender for a 2024 César is the subject of legal proceedings for assault or violence against women.

Several representative organizations, including the CGT Spectacle, intend to support the words of the alleged victims on the sidelines of the ceremony.

Make yourself heard, whatever the cost.

As for the 2020 César ceremony, a demonstration against sexual violence against women is announced near the Olympia where the big evening of French cinema takes place on Friday.

The call was launched on Wednesday, via a press release, by the CGT Spectacle which wants a rally under the slogan

“The violence, the silences, that’s enough!”.

This demonstration

“follows the various statements made by Judith Godrèche and those concerning the Depardieu affair,”

explains Salomé Gadafi, deputy general secretary at the CGT Spectacle.

“This year is particularly important for a speech to be made near the venue of the Caesars.”

In recent months, French cinema has been shaken by multiple cases.

Actor Gérard Depardieu is accused by around ten women of sexual assault and targeted by two complaints of rape.

Actress Judith Godrèche spoke out and filed a complaint against directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon.

Several actresses, including Isild Le Besco, added their testimony to that of Godrèche.

Sofiane Bennacer, star of Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi's latest film,

Les Amandiers

, is still under indictment for alleged rapes against two former companions and for violence against a third.

Actor and director Samuel Theis, starring in

Anatomy of a Fall

, is accused of rape by a technician on the set of a film he was directing last summer.

As for Dominique Boutonnat, the president of the CNC, an organization supposed to work against this violence, he was renewed in his position by the State despite a case, not yet judged, of alleged sexual assault on his 21-year-old godson.

“These facts have been denounced for a while.

It took a long time for them to be heard.

We must now mobilize to ensure that this no longer happens

,” says Salomé Gadafi.

What she regrets

“is that her women are twice victims”

, a first time during the events, and a second time when they speak out:

“They find themselves isolated and risk their work.”

For this demonstration, planned on Boulevard des Capucines, in agreement with the Paris police headquarters, the CGT Spectacle will be accompanied by others from other union federations such as the Collective 50/50 or the Society of French Directors (SRF ).

Unlike 2020, the ceremony for which Roman Polanski was in the running, no contender for a 2024 César is the subject of legal proceedings for assault or violence against women.

Salomé Gadafi therefore affirms that the mobilization

“will not be against the ceremony”

but will support the message of the women who have already spoken out.
