Delays in package delivery often cause frustration among consumers.
An innovative solution could solve the problem in the future: the use of parcel drones.
Lüdenscheid – Parcels often go on real odysseys until they finally reach the recipient.
Waiting for days or weeks has already left one or two parcel service customers desperate.
A parcel delivery person in Bavaria was even caught stealing a parcel.
However, the reason for failed deliveries is often simply that the parcel delivery person rings when no one is at home.
Excessive traffic on the roads can also cause significant delays.
This could soon be over: the first parcel drones are now being used in Germany.
Parcel drones will initially only deliver to selected companies
A fully automated drone fleet will deliver parcels in Lüdenscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia in the future.
The drones will be in use from Wednesday (February 21st).
For the time being, however, they are not delivering parcels to private individuals, but to selected companies in the region.
Delivering parcels with drones should not only be able to avoid traffic jams, but also be environmentally friendly.

The location was not chosen at random: the A 45 in Lüdenscheid is currently heavily used.
The reason is the new construction of the Rahmede Bridge.
This began at the end of 2023, after the bridge had long been considered at risk of collapse and was therefore closed.
The impact of the closure is massive daily traffic jams - and therefore significant delivery delays, which affect several companies.
Traffic chaos hotspots should benefit from parcel drones
Last-mile delivery is the name of the drone project that flies packages along a defined route to their destination and drops them off there.
Project partners are the drone company Third Element Aviation from Bielefeld and the Koerschulte Group from Lüdenscheid.
According to their own statements, they see great advantages for the companies affected by the traffic chaos.
The drones would allow them to quickly receive urgently needed products without any detours.
This type of parcel delivery is also environmentally friendly.
For the project, the Federal Aviation Authority has granted permission for a commercial scheduled flight connection of this type for the first time in Germany.
There was a trial operation in the city beforehand.
Experts see great potential for many areas of application in Germany.
In the future, even private individuals could possibly receive their orders from heaven.
Until then, a parcel carrier has some tips for consumers to ensure a smooth delivery.
