Scrambled eggs are a simple dish that only take a few minutes to prepare.

With these eight ingredients you can spice up the meal in no time.

Whether for breakfast or as a light dinner: scrambled eggs are one of the easiest and quickest dishes you can prepare in the kitchen.

The short list of ingredients is also particularly practical.

Apart from a few eggs, all you need is salt, pepper and a little oil or butter for frying.

With a few additions - which are often stored as leftovers in the fridge - you can take your scrambled eggs to a new level with little effort.

Eight ingredients for more flavor in your scrambled eggs

A single additional ingredient can spice up a simple dish or add a new flavor.

Some of the ingredients presented here also contain valuable minerals and vitamins, making eggs a complete and healthy meal.

1. Soy sauce

When it comes to salting scrambled eggs, every home cook has their own preference.

While some people mix the salt into the beaten eggs before frying, others prefer to add salt at the end, when the dish is already on the plate.

If you like it savory, you can also replace the salt with soy sauce.

This not only gives the scrambled eggs a salty but also a spicy, “umami” taste.

As a liquid, soy sauce can also be distributed evenly - in contrast to salt, which as granules often leaves gaps.

2. Green onions

Vegetables as a side dish or added to scrambled eggs not only provide vitamins, but also a splash of color.

Spring onions are characterized by a mild, slightly spicy taste.

Not only do they give the scrambled eggs a splash of green color, but - depending on the method of preparation - an additional flavor note.

Cut into small pieces and distributed raw over the eggs, they best develop the light onion flavor and are a crunchy addition to the dish.

If you fry them in a pan with butter, they caramelize and produce a slight sweetness.

3. Spinach

Also green and very healthy: spinach.

The leafy vegetables give the scrambled eggs an intense, savory taste, especially when combined with other ingredients such as peppers or cheese.

Spinach is full of antioxidants and vitamins, including vitamins A, C, K and B complex vitamins.

They supplement the protein from the eggs with important nutrients.

When preparing it, make sure that the spinach is cooked in a separate pot or pan beforehand.

Because the leafy vegetables collapse within a few minutes and lose all their water.

If you add the eggs afterwards, the dish would be watered down.

4. Honey

Scrambled eggs can also be made sweet - with the addition of honey.

According to the US food portal

Mashed,

the first recipe for sweet scrambled eggs comes from ancient Rome.

A cookbook from the third century AD describes the preparation of “Ova Spongia ex Lacte,” which translates to “spongy eggs made from milk.”

A mixture of eggs, milk and oil is cooked like an omelet and then drizzled with a little honey and freshly ground pepper after cooking.

You can also incorporate the sweet ingredient before frying.

To do this, mix a teaspoon of honey with a teaspoon of butter and fry the eggs in it.

Garnished with cheese and walnuts, the simple scrambled eggs become a gourmet meal.

5. Avocado

Sourdough bread with scrambled eggs and avocado has long been part of the menu at hip brunch spots.

The avocado not only complements the eggs with healthy fats and minerals such as magnesium, zinc, selenium, but also a creamy texture.

The fresh flavor of the avocado also goes perfectly with the eggs.

Either you serve the green fruit, which should be stored properly, as a side dish (smeared on bread or - if the avocado is a little harder - sliced) or you pack both components together in a flour tortilla and eat it as a breakfast burrito.

6. Tabasco sauce

If you like it spicy or need a special kick for breakfast, you should try Tabasco with scrambled eggs.

The mixture of chilies, vinegar and salt gives the dish an intense, spicy taste.

If you are not familiar with hot sauce or can only tolerate a little spiciness, you should approach Tabasco sauce slowly and start with a small splash.

7. Bacon

Scrambled eggs with bacon are a popular breakfast classic, especially in the USA.

In fact, the combination is the result of an advertising campaign from the 1920s, writes the

Neue Zürcher Zeitung,

among others .

At that time, the food company Beech-Nut hired PR founder Edward Bernays to increase sales of bacon.

He paid an influential doctor to conduct a survey of 5,000 doctors, which found that a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs was healthier than a light breakfast of coffee and pastries.

It is now clear that bacon is not particularly good for your health.

If it's not on your menu regularly, you can treat yourself to the “American Breakfast” every now and then.

When preparing it, you should be careful not to mix too much bacon fat with the eggs, otherwise the meal may turn out to be very oily.

It's better to fry the bacon individually.

This way you can reduce the amount of fat and the bacon will be particularly crispy.

8. Cheese

Eggs with cheese are often eaten in the form of a frittata or an omelet.

But cheese is also suitable as an addition or side dish to scrambled eggs.

With the large selection of cheeses, you can try out a wide variety of flavors - or choose your favorite type straight away.

If you want to use the cheese while it is frying, you should choose varieties that melt quickly, such as Gouda, mozzarella or Swiss cheese.

This creates the typical, sticky consistency that makes many people's mouths water.

Cheddar, for example, does not melt as well and is more suitable as a side dish with scrambled eggs.
