'Democratic' tile in pure "Nimby" style (not in my backyard) for the electric car and Tesla in Germany: as the Financial Times website highlights today, the residents of the city of Gruenheide, in the east of the country, have rejected by a large majority a plan for massive expansion of the US car manufacturer's only European assembly plant.
65% of voters in a local referendum opposed Tesla's plan, which involves cutting down 100 hectares of forest to make way for a train station, warehouses and a nursery.
The vote, which took place yesterday, was not binding but city councilors say they will respect the will of the community.
Even today it was not clear whether the expansion plan will still be presented to the City Council for approval or whether it will be withdrawn.
