Pecorino Romano Dop has been included among the hard cheeses in the national list of food products to be allocated to charitable organizations for the sustenance of poor people.
Agea, the Agency for agricultural disbursements, has determined the criteria for carrying out a public tender aimed at the supply of a quota of Pecorino Romano worth approximately 3.3 million euros.
"It is an initiative of great importance for the Sardinian dairy sector because it helps to stabilize prices on the market and consequently also those of sheep's milk - explains the president of the Consortium for the Protection of Pecorino Romano Dop, Gianni Maoddi -. This is an a result that we also obtained thanks to the support of the Region and, in particular, of the Agriculture councilor Valeria Satta, whom I thank for her fundamental support in achieving a result that has been questioned by some, instrumentally and with useless bad faith" .
The supply will be assigned on the basis of the most economically advantageous offer in terms of quality-price ratio, starting from the market valuation of Pecorino Romano PDO equal to 14.28 euros per kilo plus VAT.
