A fire broke out on the fifth floor of a newly built 14-storey building in Valencia, in the Campanar district, where numerous teams of firefighters are in action, the emergency services report.
At least seven people were injured in the fire - reports El Pais -: a firefighter treated for a fracture, two firefighters taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, as well as four civilians, including a minor, for smoke inhalation.
Others would still be trapped, reports Spanish TV RTVE, underlining that a father and his daughter, who were stuck on their balcony, were taken to safety.
"There are screams and desperate people looking for relatives or friends" who were inside the building, the media reported.
The flames, due to the strong gusts of wind, quickly spread to the entire building, as documented by the videos posted on social media.
A field hospital has been set up in the area.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is following the developments of the fire.
