Öko-Test tested a total of 37 classic spaghetti made from durum wheat semolina.

Two thirds of the noodles in the test were rated “very good”.

These are the best spaghetti:

A proper Bolognese, a real Italian carbonara or fried vegetables.

Italian pasta, especially spaghetti, is very popular and can also be used in many different ways in the kitchen.

For this reason, Öko-Test grabbed spaghetti from different manufacturers and checked them for their ingredients.

Which of the long noodles you should choose according to the Öko-Test.

The best spaghetti according to Öko-Test

At Öko-Test, the 37 spaghetti were analyzed in special laboratories for various pesticides and growth regulators.

These include glyphosphate and its degradation product animomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) and glufosinate.

Mineral oil components (MOSH/MOAH), the heavy metal cadmium and a wide range of mold toxins were also examined.

In addition, the packages were checked for chlorinated compounds and declarations, Nutri-Score, portion sizes and fiber content.

The complete test result for spaghetti at Öko-Test can be read here (charges apply).

Two thirds of the spaghetti were convincing in the test.

Mainly organic products perform poorly.

These are some of the best spaghetti according to Öko-Test:

  • Good & Cheap Spaghetti, Edeka,

    grade:

    “very good”

  • Yes!

    Spaghetti, Rewe,

    grade:

    “very good”

  • Barilla Spaghetti N° 5, Barilla,

    grade:

    “very good”

  • Alnatura Spaghetti, Alnatura,

    grade:

    “very good”

The loser spaghetti in the eco-test

While the vast majority of spaghetti scored “very good” in the test, there are some products that did not convince the testers.

The reason for this is, among other things, high levels of mineral oil components.

This surprised the testers, as the substances tend to accumulate in fatty products and spaghetti only contains one to two percent fat.

When asked, the companies cannot explain the increased MOSCH/MOAH content.

It is mainly organic products that do not impress in the test and that, according to Öko-Test, should not be thrown into the pot.

The topic of pesticides also comes up in the spaghetti test.

The pesticide glyphosphate was even detected in an organic product.

But that's not all, because the test also revealed mold toxins.

Also with an organic product.

According to Öko-Test, you should stay away from these spaghetti:

  • Organic organic spaghetti, Netto Marken-Discount,

    grade:

    “poor”

  • Edeka organic spaghetti, Edeka,

    grade:

    “poor”

What should you pay attention to?

The winning spaghetti in the test are all free of harmful substances and are therefore safe to eat.

The only regrettable feature is the poor performance of the organic products, but more than half of the 20 organic products received top marks.

In contrast to the test from three years ago, the spaghetti manufacturers have also managed to use significantly fewer pesticides for their products.

Pesticides or active ingredients were only detected in eight of the 37 spaghetti tested.

When it comes to spaghetti, you should also pay attention to how it is processed at home; these 7 mistakes are important to avoid when cooking pasta.
