The author, who won a prestigious literary award in Japan, admitted that about "five percent" of her book was written by ChatGPT.
The 33-year-old writer Rie Kudan explained at the award ceremony on Wednesday (January 17, 2024) that she “actively” used artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, when writing her futuristic novel.
“I would say about five percent of the book is the AI-generated sentences.”
Rie Kudan's work “Tokyo-to Dojo-to” (in German: “Tokyo Tower of Sympathy”) was recently honored with the Akutagawa Prize.
The book's plot is set in the future and focuses on a high-rise prison in Tokyo and its architect.
AI plays a central role in the story.

Dialogues with ChatGPT
Kudan said that she often experiments with ChatGPT - and not just when writing.
She trusts the software with her deepest thoughts, which she cannot “talk to anyone else about.”
