"Ferrari is a childhood dream. A new chapter will open."
Lewis Hamilton is preparing for the Formula 1 season now upon us but is looking to the adventure that awaits him with the Maranello Team from 2025. "It was the most difficult decision I have ever made: I am proud of the goals achieved in Mercedes, but I have thought it was time to start a new chapter."
The 39-year-old British champion, from Bahrain where the pre-season tests of the world championship are underway, spoke about the decision which surprised the single-seater world.
"When we signed this summer (the contract extension, ed.), it was obvious that I saw my future with Mercedes, but at the beginning of the year an opportunity presented itself and I decided to take it," he explained to margin of the last day of testing.
"I feel that this is the most difficult decision I have ever had to make, I have been linked to Mercedes for 26 years. They supported me and we lived an incredible adventure together, which marked the history of the sport and of which I am very proud - he explained Hamilton - But in the end, I'm the one writing my own story and I felt it was time to start a new chapter."
In Mercedes, Hamilton won six world titles and the Briton guarantees that "it's not over yet. I'm still 100% focused on getting results with this team this year and trying to finish well."
