The show “Hartz und Herzlich” is about people who receive social welfare.

One participant now has a training position – and is not entirely enthusiastic.

Munich – Citizens’ money has been available since January 1, 2023.

The

RTL2

program “Hartz und Herzlich” did not change its name, which was inspired by Hartz IV.

The participant Jean is also presented there, who wants his citizen's money back after starting his training.

“Hartz and Herzlich”: Former citizen benefit recipient is dissatisfied with his salary

Almost 5.5 million people in Germany receive citizen's benefit, as the Federal Employment Agency reported in January 2024.

This number is made up of those entitled to benefits who are able to work (3.97 million people) and those entitled to benefits who are not able to work (1.55 million people).

Recipients receive a standard rate of 563 euros, although the amount can vary for many people.

The former citizen's benefit recipient Jean from the show "Hartz und Herzlich" no longer receives any citizen's benefit since he started training.

The 22-year-old wants to become a salesman and have a career so he can no longer be dependent on welfare.

As the father of two told the RTL2 program, he is not yet entirely enthusiastic about working life.

As he quickly discovered, his training salary would not last long.

Former citizen’s benefit recipient: “I’m poor in terms of training”

As 22-year-old Jean reported, as a recipient of citizen's benefit he had almost 1,000 euros per month at his disposal.

With his training salary, the father of two only has a monthly income of around 660 euros.

“I'm just poor in terms of training.

“In terms of money, I was better off at the job center,” he said.

In order to compensate for the large discrepancy, he wants to apply for child benefit and vocational training allowance (BAB) - with this he would earn more than he received with citizen's benefit.

Although Jean has so far earned less than with citizen's money, he does not regret his decision to seek training.

“I really want to have something in my pocket,” he said about his new sales training.

22-year-old Jean and other citizens' benefit recipients can be seen regularly on RTL2; the program “Hartz und Herzlich” is broadcast there daily from 4:05 p.m.
