Russian authorities have given Alexei Navalny's mother an ultimatum, threatening that if she does not agree to hold a secret funeral, his body will be buried in the penal colony where he died.

This was announced by the spokesperson of the Navalny team, Kira Yarmysh, and his wife Yulia Navalnaya.

Khodorkovsky, 'the Kremlin fears Navalny's funeral'

Russian opponent and former oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky said the Kremlin would like Alexey Navalny's funeral not to be public because it fears possible protests.

"Here - said Khodorkovsky in an interview with Current Time - there are two variants. The first (...) is that Putin fears he will end up in trouble again if traces of a poisonous substance were to be found. Well , this is possible, but - continued the dissident - I believe that the problem with the funeral of Alexey Navalny is much more dangerous for Putin in the context of the election campaign. In this situation, no one can predict what impact the funeral may have: they could be as quiet as Prigozhin's or there could be huge clashes in Moscow."
