France itself represents the first market for the export of Bufala PDO, absorbing around a third of the total.

The French are in fact among the biggest cheese enthusiasts in the world: in 2021 they consumed around 29 kg of cheese per capita and this quantity included on average 1.9 kg of mozzarella, a product which is in third place among preferences across the Alps according to the 2023 report by France Agrimer.
