Business trips happen from time to time in some jobs.
This is accompanied by special features that affect, among other things, working hours.
What you need to consider.
Anyone who travels for work and, for example, takes part in conferences or training courses or is otherwise employed by their company is on a business trip.
The circumstances usually differ from those at the actual place of work.
For example, the journey to the permanent place of work is independent of working hours; this can be different on a business trip.
The length of working hours can also vary under certain circumstances.
When are employees actually on business trips?
On business trips, the place of work changes for employees, but working hours may not change significantly.

Employees who are deployed on behalf of their work and are not in the immediate vicinity of their place of work are usually on a business trip, informs the
Hasselbach law firm
.
For example, if an employee is visiting a customer who is just two streets away, this is a business visit.
If the business trip is further away, whether the travel time counts as working time depends, among other things, on the means of transport and the demands.

Do working hours extend on business trips?
In principle, the Working Hours Act (ArbZG) also applies to business trips.
This means that employers and employees must adhere to certain requirements.
For example, employees are allowed to work a maximum of eight hours a day.
In exceptional cases, ten hours are allowed.
However, working hours longer than ten hours may not be required or provided, informs
Von Rueden
, a partnership of lawyers, on its website.
The regulations at a glance:
Break times are deducted from working hours as normal.
Employees generally work eight hours, but working hours can be increased to ten hours.
If the employee works on a business trip on a Sunday, there is a substitute day of rest.
There must be at least eleven hours of rest between the end of work and the start of work.
If overtime occurs on business trips that the employer has ordered or approved, this will be paid.
