Civilizations are mortal, but some are tough.
This is the case of ours, whose origins can at least be traced back to the moment when, twenty-three centuries ago, the Roman Republic completely absorbed the Hellenistic kingdoms after its victory at the Battle of Pydna (168 BC). BC) and collected the Greek heritage in all areas of art, philosophy and literature, adding to it the character specific to its spirit, the taste for law, legislation and administration, all tempered by the ideal of
gravitas.
This civilization is still present and alive in the 21st century.
However, it has faced many dangers: first and foremost, the turmoil caused by the dissolution of the Roman Empire in the West under the effect of what we call “the great invasions”, which began in the 3rd century (but were pushed back), repeated in the 5th, this time with success.
