The Conference of Rectors (Crui) "observes with concern what is happening in various Italian cities" and underlines "the constant commitment of universities to encourage peaceful dialogue and coexistence between opposing groups, which is in the very nature of scientific research as an academic mission ".
The rectors recall that "the right to demonstrate represents one of the most important achievements in the history of Western democracy and as such must be guaranteed and preserved".
"Square clashes - recall the directors of the Crui - ended with the wounding of students who took to the streets to express their dissent towards violence as a tool for resolving conflicts. Events on which it will be up to the competent authorities to clarify the dynamics and responsibilities" .
