Water march: If excessive moisture forms in the refrigerator, there can be various reasons behind it.
What helps against the wet.
Condensation in the refrigerator: An annoying problem that many people are familiar with.
A small amount is harmless and is no reason to panic.
But it can also happen that significantly too much water accumulates.
At the latest when small puddles form and food gets wet, you should take care of solving the problem.
Below you will learn the five most common causes of too much water in the refrigerator and effective solutions.
1. Clogged drain
The most common cause of too much condensation is a clogged drain.
This is located on the back wall of the refrigerator interior and is used to drain away excess water.
It is normal for a fine layer of water to form there.
The drainage channel ensures that the water is transported away.
It finally evaporates in the collecting container due to the heat from the compressor.
Over time, dirt and dust can build up in the refrigerator and clog the condensation drain.
As a result, the excess water can no longer drain away - and puddles arise.
To solve the problem, the drain must be cleaned.
Empty the refrigerator completely and wipe the inside clean.
The Munich kitchen studio
Elha Service
recommends cleaning the drain with a toothpick, wire, pipe cleaner or similar small objects.
The small hole is located on the side or in the middle of the drainage channel in the lower part of the back wall.
Regular cleaning also protects against excessive water in the refrigerator.

Cleaning is usually done quickly, but requires sensitivity.
Otherwise, you risk pushing the dirt further into the hole.
Caution: If mold has already formed in the drain, you should defrost the entire refrigerator and clean it carefully for hygiene reasons.
After all, you don't want to risk the mold spreading to the food in the fridge.
2. Defective door seal
A defective door seal can allow warm air to enter the refrigerator, which in turn promotes the formation of condensation.
This also increases power consumption: cold air is lost and the refrigerator uses more energy due to the constant cooling down.
To test the seal, you can wedge a piece of paper or a bill into the refrigerator door.
If it cannot be pulled out at all or is difficult, the seal is intact.
However, if you can get the paper out without resistance, you should change the rubber.

3. Opening the refrigerator door too often or for a long time
Going to the fridge is mandatory, especially in summer.
However, when you open the door, warm air and therefore moisture gets inside.
The more often and longer the refrigerator is left open, the more water forms.
Instead of standing in front of the refrigerator compartment pondering for minutes, it's better to think about what you want to get out beforehand.
This also saves unnecessarily high energy costs.
4. Food that is too hot in the refrigerator
Do you have leftovers from lunch?
Then it's better to wait until you put the dish in the fridge.
Food or foods that are too warm lead to increased condensation and this is exactly what needs to be avoided.
Always allow food to cool to at least room temperature before putting it in the refrigerator.
According to
Öko-Test,
storing warm food in the refrigerator can shorten the shelf life of other products.
The rising temperature in the refrigerator has a direct impact on sensitive foods.

This makes air circulation more difficult;
Moisture accumulates.
Drops of water or ice often form.
So when putting things away, make sure there is a gap between the food and the refrigerator walls.
Don't overstuff the shelves.
When storing, follow common recommendations.
Perishable and sensitive products such as meat and fish should be placed in the lowest and coolest compartment.
In the middle part there is space for dairy products and leftovers.
You can store drinks, sauces and dressings at the top.
Vegetables and fruit feel most at home in the vegetable compartment.
