Last week we wrote to you that the comedian Amy Schumer probably felt obliged to give an update after quite a few comments were posted on social networks and dealt with how she looks, and more precisely - why her face is so swollen.

"You are right that it is more swollen than usual right now," Schumer wrote on Instagram.

"I have endometriosis, an autoimmune disease that every woman should read about."

Schumer added, "There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I'm fine."

Well we have news.

The 42-year-old actress said that it was now discovered that it was Cushing's syndrome, a fact that was revealed on Friday in Jessica Yellin's "News Not Noise" newsletter.

Schumer said the uncommon condition - characterized by symptoms such as a fatty hump on the back of the neck and a "moon" face as a result of weight gain - is caused by receiving steroid injections and a high presence of cortisol - the stress hormone.

The actress, however, said she feels like she's been "reborn" about her diagnosis, as she's in generally good health and Cushing's will "just sort itself out."

"It's been a crazy two weeks for me and my family," Schumer noted.

"Besides the fears about my health, I also had to appear in front of the camera."

She added that she is going public with her condition to "work for women's health," noting, "I so want women to love themselves and be ruthless as they fight for their health in a system that generally doesn't believe them."

Schumer also emphasizes empathy, adding that the recent uproar around her "is a good example of the fact that we never know what's going on with someone. Everyone is struggling with something. Maybe we can all be a little nicer to each other and to ourselves."

Cushing's syndrome is considered rare, but it is three times more common in women and is characterized not only by a bump on the back of the neck, abdominal fat and facial swelling, but also by menstrual disorders and an excess.

And beyond the discomfort, Cushing's can also be a fatal disease.
