Sugar-free Lent.

Lent began on February 22nd and with it a new challenge for me.

Every year I try to avoid something for the next 40 days.

This year it will be added sugar.

Good thing I don't know what to expect yet.

The “No Added Sugar ”

challenge is about eliminating all foods that contain added sugar

from

your diet

.

In short this means: no

sugar

,

honey

,

syrup

,

molasses

,

corn syrup

or

other sweet additives.

Neither pure nor as an additive in food.

As soon as this Lent is over, I will feast really hard.

So I decided to try out these delicious cookie pudding slices:

Is this sugar-free or can it be omitted?

Giving up added sugar is easier said than done.

Finding processed foods that don't contain sugar is ultimately difficult.

This is mainly because

sugar has many different names

and is listed in different forms, such as syrup and honey.

I have put together some of them for you here.

If one of the following terms is listed among the ingredients, it means “stay away!”

  • Sucrose

  • Glucose

  • Fructose

  • Dextrose

  • Maltose

  • lactose

  • Galactose

  • Raffinose

  • molasses

  • Agave syrup

  • maple syrup

  • Honey

  • corn syrup

  • malt extract

  • Invert sugar

  • Sugar beet syrup

  • Caramel syrup

  • rice syrup

After hours of shopping and the appearance of a new worry line on my face from reading the small fonts on packaging, I had an insight.

If I wanted to completely avoid added sugar, the easiest way would be to eat

mostly unprocessed foods

.

Lent will soon

be

over, but I believe that it is always worth integrating a few low-sugar or even sugar-free recipes into your everyday life.

Maybe you would like to try out the “No Added Sugar” challenge for the rest of the time until Easter?

Then you can indulge yourself at Easter as a

reward at the gourmet buffet

.

With the “No Added Sugar” challenge you can be more or less strict with yourself.

Fruit, for example , often naturally

contains a lot of fructose

.

It is often recommended not to eat bananas because they are one of the fruits that contain a lot of sugar.

I have decided not to compromise on fruit and vegetables.

Here's a little

overview:

In general, you can't go wrong with berries because almost all of them are low in sugar.

Particularly sweet fruits end up on the right side.

With them you have to decide whether you want to do without them.

It's not that easy to give up sugar.

After the hardest part was over, I suddenly felt incredibly

fit

.

I got out of bed easier and my midday slump was overcome in no time.

I will definitely

integrate my

favorite dishes

and will continue to make sure to consume

sugar in moderation

and cook fresh food more often in the future.
