There are well-known names from Bari crime and politics among the 130 recipients of precautionary measures carried out today by the police in Bari and in the province, against as many people under investigation - for various reasons - for political-mafia electoral exchange for the 2019 Bari municipal elections;

extortion, possession and possession of weapons, illicit marketing of drugs, impaired freedom of auctions, fraud in sporting competitions, all crimes aggravated by the mafia method.

    Among these, prison was ordered for Tommaso 'Tommy' Parisi, neo-melodic singer and son of the boss Savino (known as 'Savinuccio') from the Japigia neighbourhood, already sentenced to eight years in the first instance for mafia association, and for the former regional councilor and lawyer Giacomo Olivieri.

House arrest was instead placed on Olivieri's wife, city councilor Maria Carmen Lorusso, elected with the 'Di Rella mayor' list (centre-right) and then passed to the majority which supports mayor Antonio Decaro.

    The 2019 municipal elections ended up at the center of another investigation into the relationship between politics and the mafia which led, in October 2022, to the arrest of the then municipal councilor Francesca Ferri, also elected from the ranks of the 'Di Rellasindaco' list.

Ferri, his partner Filippo Dentamaro and the president of Foggia football Nicola Canonico are currently on trial for criminal association aimed at electoral corruption and mafia political electoral exchange for the elections of Bari and the nearby municipality of Valenzano.

Also involved in that investigation were the leaders of the Buscemi clan of Valenzano, linked to the Parisi clan of the Japigia neighbourhood.
