When returning to winter time, one device is often overlooked: the heating timer.

A lot of money can be saved if consumers think about it.

Munich – On the night of October 28th to 29th, the clocks were set back one hour.

This also means that many clocks had to be changed to the now applicable winter time.

This usually works automatically with digital watches and smartphones.

But with some devices you still have to do it yourself.

One of these is often overlooked: the timer on the heaters.

This watch is particularly important.

If it goes wrong, it could mean that heating costs go up.

Forgot the time change: With this watch it gets expensive

Because the heating system continues to run on summer time, it starts an hour later than it should.

Not only is this uncomfortable when you get up in the morning, but it also reduces the savings that such a timer is supposed to achieve.

Because the heating then runs an hour longer than necessary in the evening.

If you adapt your heating system as closely as possible to your everyday life, you can save the most energy.

This includes, above all, reducing the temperature at night.

In order for this to make sense, the time change should also be adjusted as quickly as possible when controlling the temperature of the heating system.

The information program “Future Old Buildings”, which is supported by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, recommends a maximum temperature of 19 to 21 degrees Celsius during the day in common rooms such as living rooms, children's rooms and offices.

At night you should reduce the temperature there to 16 degrees Celsius.

If you have a timer on the heating, you can set it one hour before going to bed and one hour before getting up so that the heating switches down to the appropriate night temperature and heats up again in good time.

According to the heating experts from “Zukunft Altbau”, nightly heating costs can be reduced as much as possible in this way.

But energy can also be saved in other ways through proper maintenance of the heating system.

If it gurgles when you turn on the heater, there is probably too much air in the heating system.

With a few tips, ventilation can also be done by laypeople.

And if you physically struggle with the time change, you can use a few tips to better prepare for it next time.
