According to media reports, the 75-year-old was diagnosed with cancer during his hospital stay.

There are various forms of cancer that often affect men as they age.

According to information from the German Cancer Research Center (dkfz),

the cancer risk for certain types of tumors

changes over the course of life .

For example, leukemia is the most common type of cancer in children, affecting girls and boys equally.

For adults, however, there are differences.

Both gender and age influence the risk of disease.

As they age, men often develop the following three types of cancer:

  • Prostate cancer

    : According to the

    German Cancer Society,

    prostate cancer is a malignant tumor of the prostate gland in men.

    According to information from the

    Robert Koch Institute (RKI

    ), around 63,400 men develop prostate cancer every year.

    This makes it the most common cancer among men in Germany.

  • Lung cancer

    : According to information from the

    dkfz

    , a so-called bronchial carcinoma is a very common cancer. However, compared to other types of cancer, its symptoms become noticeable late.

    In Germany, around 34,700 men develop lung cancer every year.

  • Colon cancer

    : According to the men's health portal of the

    Federal Center for Health Education,

    around 33,920 men in Germany develop colon cancer every year.

    This type of cancer is the third most common cancer in men.

    The older you are, the higher your risk of developing colon cancer.

    On average, men develop colon cancer at the age of 72, which is a malignant change in the mucous membrane of the intestine.

    A tumor most often occurs in the large intestine and rectum.
