"The new CAP was poorly written, the current exemptions are insufficient, we need substantial changes".

He declared this on the sidelines of the Coldiretti demonstration in Brussels to ask for a simplification of the CAP rules.

"On 9 June, after the European elections, Europe must change direction and take note of the mistakes made so far and of the fact that world scenarios have changed radically in light of the effects of the war in Ukraine and the tensions in the Middle East and the change market dynamics and global competition".

The minister underlined the need for substantial changes aimed at strengthening "the farmer's income as maintainer of the territory".

As the Italian government, Lollobrigida continued while talking to journalists, "we have the duty to feel co-responsible for European choices but also to influence them, not supporting the rigid positions taken by Europe in an illogical manner".

In the last 16 months, he further added, "we have put agriculture at the center of the debate in Italy and we present ourselves to the EU Council - underway today in Brussels - with a proposal for an organic framework firmly anchored to the founding principles of the European project in which the protection of the farmer was a point of reference for the impact on food security, land maintenance and the fight against depopulation".
