"The 27 member states are firm in stating that this situation cannot remain as it is" and it is "necessary to adopt rapid measures and other more long-term measures in the EU".
Belgian Minister David Clarinval, the rotating EU presidency, said this regarding farmers' protests at the end of the Agrifish Council.
The EU Commission's proposals "go in the right direction and are the very first concrete step to respond to some of farmers' concerns. However, the Council invites the Commission to rapidly complement these measures with new, more ambitious measures".
