In his speech at the inauguration of the academic year of the Humanitas University in Rozzano (Milan), the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci underlined "how important it is to work in the National Health Service today somewhat fatigued by the lack of human capital due to various factors ".
"From decades of incorrect planning of the need for healthcare personnel, from the flight to other countries that currently offer better prospects - he added -. A healthcare that we are also reviewing with a view to offering new generations the opportunity to realize their aspirations in Italy".
"Also because we will increasingly need greater health profiles in the territorial structures that we are creating to respond to the new health needs that have emerged in recent decades - he continued -. In this challenge, the university can also play a strategic role in rediscovering the profound meaning of the healthcare profession which is also a vocation".
"I believe that this university's attention also towards the development of a critical sense is fundamental to prepare young people to make choices that today appear against the current - he concluded -, to opt, for example, for those less sought-after specializations, but which today are among the most precious for our National Health Service".
“I am convinced that Italy can become attractive", he continues. The National Health Service can become attractive again not only by providing greater economic rewards and career progression but also by creating better working conditions".
