He had seen his 'champion' play and win and then waited for her and spent a few hours together.

A joy for the victory that Matteo and Matilde, the two young engaged couples who died last night in a road accident in the Brindisi area, were able to share for a few minutes.

Matteo Buccoliero was 20 years old, Matilde Chionna would have become an adult in a few weeks, and in the meantime she divided her time between school and volleyball.

The twenty-year-old lived with his family in Sava, in the province of Taranto, and was the son of the public prosecutor Mariano Buccoliero who followed several important investigations such as the one into the murder of Sarah Scazzi and is part of the pool of investigators in the 'Ambiente Svenduto' trial on the former Ilva.

Yesterday after the match, in Oria, the two engaged couples were reaching Mesagne.

Less than 20 kilometers divide the two municipalities: at the gates of the town of Mesagne the head-on collision between the Fiat Grande Punto driven by Matteo and a BMW driven by a 32-year-old.

After the impact, the car of the two young people ended up crumpled in an olive grove.

All rescue attempts by the 118 health workers were in vain. On board another ambulance, however, the 32-year-old was transferred to Perrino in Brindisi: the man is in shock, but not in danger of his life.

The Brindisi Prosecutor's Office, meanwhile, has seized the two cars for investigations.

The investigations to reconstruct what happened are coordinated by the public prosecutor Giuseppe De Nozza, and are conducted by the local police of Mesagne.

The bodies of the two engaged couples were returned to their families so that the funeral could be held.

The pain over the death of the two young people united the communities of Sava where the 20-year-old lived, and Latiano, a municipality in the province of Brindisi where Matilde Chionna lived.

In the small Ionian center the Buccoliero family is well known and appreciated.

Many wanted to testify their closeness to the public prosecutor in the 'Scazzi' case.

"Hello little lioness", is, however, one of the many messages dedicated to the promising young Brindisi volleyball player, remembered this morning also in her school, with a bouquet of roses on her desk and a minute of contemplation during the recess break.

The girl attended the 3rd year of the Ettore Palumbo human sciences, economic, social and linguistic high school in Brindisi.

The head teacher, Serena Oliva, in her speech after the minute of reflection, wanted to underline the human qualities and daily commitment of Matilde Chionna not only at school but also in sport.
