Two years after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, in Italy the retail prices of some consumer products continue to be affected by the consequences of the war. This was stated by the Center for Training and Research on Consumption (Crc9 (ANSA)


Two years after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, in Italy the retail prices of some consumer products continue to be affected by the consequences of the war.

This was stated by the Consumer Training and Research Center (Crc) which compared the price lists of bread, pasta and olive oil in 5 large Italian cities to understand how prices have changed from the pre-conflict period to today.

This is demonstrated by the data emerging from the study conducted by the Center for Training and Research on Consumption (CRC) which, reworking the numbers provided by the MIMIT Price and Tariff Observatory, analyzed the price lists of fresh bread, semolina pasta and seed oil. sunflower in 5 Italian cities comparing the prices in force in January 2022.

"As is known, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 led to strong tensions on the market of food raw materials - recalls Furio Truzzi, president of the Crc - International prices of wheat and corn skyrocketed as a consequence of the block on imports from Ukraine and Russia".

According to the CRC study, in Rome a kilo of bread today costs on average 22% more than two years ago, +14.7% for pasta;

in Milan sunflower seed oil actually costs 38.9% more, pasta is +23.2%.

The price increases in Bologna are very strong: compared to the pre-war period, seed oil costs 47.2% more, pasta +31.3%.

In Naples, bread increased on average by 23.9%, pasta by 17%, with spaghetti, penne and fusilli costing 19.3% more in Palermo compared to January 2022 (bread +9.2%).

The cities of the south, however, are those which record data that go against the trend with regards to the retail prices of sunflower seed oil: here the prices drop by -13.2% in Naples and by -4% in Palermo compared to the period pre-conflict, while Rome records stationary prices.
